As I finish the MAET it is less of an ending and more of a beginning. I think that this degree and the whole process have opened many doors and new experiences. I have always looked ahead in my career to where I needed to go next. What do I need to do to be a better educator? It is my belief that learning no matter how big or small, is never wasted and gives you the experience that you will need down the road. This program has allowed me to be the part of something bigger giving me reasonability to share and teach what I have learned. With the MAET Program I have learned many skills and web 2.0 tools to improve my teaching, as well as help teach the global skills that my students will need in the future. The rate that the global network is advancing is overwhelming and there is no way to keep up with all the new advances. With this being said, there are ways to keep up with the most important advancements and allowing me to keep as current as possible. I think the next step for me is to continue to pay it forward I am just starting a technology class for my eighth grade students at school. I feel so ready to incorporate what I have learned and share skills that the students need to know. I have changed course a little this year in that the superintendent wanted me to start on a leadership certificate so while I was making plans other plans were being made for me. All the tools I have learned both as part of my classes and from my PLC are tools that I am finding invaluable. I believe that in many ways this program will help be to reach the next goal. In the educational picture of my life this is the second master that I have attained I already have a masters in literacy. The next step in my career is to continue to be a tech leader in my district as well as to continue to advocate for the technology needs of the students in our district. I am starting an electronic portfolio program for our district and am working very hard so that the teachers understand the types of assignments that would be good for our student’s grades 3-12. This will help the students become better global learners and see the value of the assignments they are asked to complete. Looking even further into the future, I would like to be a technology specialist or director in a district. I would like to help teachers integrate technology into their lessons, while understanding the importance of the TPACK philosophy, which integrates technology with pedagogy and content. Many teachers do not have the resources or knowledge that is needed to properly incorporate technology into their classrooms. Integrating technology at a deep level is essential to our students’ futures. The future is never set in stone. The most important thing to me is to make a difference no matter where I am. I feel that this program has given me the skills to go out into a global society more confidence and ready to incorporate this knowledge into my future experiences. As I go forth with the web skills and the software I have learned to use, and the knowledge I have attained knowing that the value of the education is also in what that education becomes when it goes into the world to embrace and change what is already there. I would like to quote Gandhi “Be the change you want to see in the world”. I feel that the change I want to see in the world is for the students that I teach. I want them to be able to take part and be leaders in a global society.
